Eleven Star Working

Transmitted by Soror Nema, the Eleven Star Working can be found on the Horus/Maat Lodge website [1]. Briefly, it involves the assumption of a Throne in one of the eleven planetary spheres of the Wheel of Life for the period of one year. The zone selected is usually chosen as appropriate by ones personal feelings at a given time, and like all Maatian magick tends to accelerate the development, initiations, and ordeals of the individual. While such a commitment should not be undertaken lightly, it should not be feared either. It serves to focus and express ones evolution and individuation, to be a catalyst for transformation and art.

Participants generally interweave this ritual with their own customary and regular practices, and endeavor to be as creative and improvisational as possible. Perhaps here is as good a place as any to mention the paradigm of Chaos Magick, which closely parallels many Maatian methods and is a major influence upon many of the members of the Horus/Maat Lodge. Begun as an attempt to strip away historical and symbolic accretions from occultism, it digests the techniques of sorcery down to their essential forms, and thus formulates one of the clearest models of the esoteric process. Contrasted with the complexities of such systems as the Golden Dawn, it expounds a revolutionary simplicity by comparison. As we all draw upon so many cultures and times in our understanding of things, it is good to remember that magicians practice an Art, and witches a Craft: rote learning can never be as effective as a freely creative process.

Those involved in this process perform rituals on the night of each New Moon and then gather in the Moonbase Temple as well. As a rule there is often discussion of possible themes on the HML List beforehand, and recently these have tended towards working for world peace or healing or insight. Some expert is usually kind enough to explain the astrological aspects. It is not necessary to actually assume a Throne to participate, and many members link in their own ways; some have worked upon the paths rather than the spheres of the qabalistic Tree of Life, or the spaces in-between. It is also customary to post ones magical record of these workings on the List, and to compare the visions of the astral gathering. As the ongoing engine of our Lodge, these records have been gathered by Frater A.C. [2].
